FIRMUS ENERGY LAUNCHES INITIATIVE TO HELP NORTHERN IRELAND SAVE ENERGY.

BOOK YOUR FREE ENERGY AUDIT TODAY!*

With the rising costs of living rarely out of the media spotlight at the moment, firmus energy is launching a major initiative to help people in its network area manage their energy consumption in a bid to save energy.

The cost of energy, and heating our homes, has risen significantly in the last twelve months.

An increase in global demand for energy post pandemic has been exacerbated by a range of additional global supply factors, most notably and recently, the horrific War in Ukraine. This has led to gas trading markets becoming more volatile resulting in significantly higher average prices for natural gas over the past number of months.

firmus energy is always working to bring the lowest tariffs to its 111,000 customers but the truth is that the company can’t influence wholesale prices. That is why it’s dedicated to helping customers better manage energy usage in an effort to keep costs to a minimum.

Called ‘Lets Save Energy’, the initiative has been created in collaboration with firmus energy’s team of expert energy advisors, all of whom are City and Guilds Energy Awareness trained. As part of the initiative firmus energy’s advisors will share expert tips and hints that mostly only professionals or those working in the industry know, all with the aim of helping customers save energy in their homes.

Pamela Beatty, firmus energy Marketing Manager said:

“Most people waste a certain amount of energy every day either through not having the right equipment or not running their heating system in the most efficient way possible – something I’m guilty of!  Yet by following some fairly simple steps a significant amount of energy can be saved. With, not only energy prices rising across the board, but wider increases in living costs, everyone’s budgets are being squeezed and there is a renewed focus on just how much energy we are using. Through our Let’s Save Energy campaign we hope to be able to help people maximise that energy and get the absolute most out of every kilowatt.

“The campaign is being supported with a series of Let’s Save Energy videos which will shortly be posted on our website and social media. A series of roadshows across the major towns in our network area is also imminent where customers can drop in, get personal energy advice, ask questions and return home with an action plan to conserve energy in their homes.”

There are currently a range of offers available to people who want to upgrade their central heating system including a limited time offer of up to £1,200 off a boiler and control upgrade through the boiler replacement scheme. firmus energy also provides a range of services aimed at helping people manage their energy usage including a free energy audit*. If you haven’t booked yours today register your interest on firmus energy’s website.

firmus energy’s top tips to save energy

Keep your room thermostat to a temperature that you feel comfortable with (normally 18 - 210C)**. Homes could save up to £80 per year by turning their thermostat down by 10C *

Set your thermostatic radiator valves in each room to a temperature that suits your circumstances. We use the rooms in our homes differently, e.g. kitchens tend to be warm due to cooking so adjusting the thermostat lower than other rooms may prevent overheating and save energy.

Check that your heating timer is set at the correct times / days that you require heat. As we enter Spring and Summer there is hope that the sun will appear, this may mean that you can scale back on your time settings, By optimising your heating timer and day settings for each season you can instantly save energy.

Set the central heating and domestic hot water output temperatures of the boiler to your desired heat level. This may be lower than what it is currently. There is no efficiency in producing boiling water when in reality we bathe in water between 32° C – 40° C**

Reduce time in the shower with instant hot water there is no need to run the system in advance, simply turn on as you’re ready to get in and this will also save water wastage.

Ensure your gas boiler is serviced each year to ensure boiler efficiency. Having an approved Gas Safe engineer service your boiler annually will give you piece of mind that it is running efficiently and could even earn discounts with some home insurance providers.

Consider getting advanced controls fitted which allow you to keep in control of your heating whilst out and about or from the comfort of your home.

High efficiency is key ensure your boiler is a high efficiency condensing boiler which is over 90% efficient!

Insulate Ensure your roof space insulation is at least 300mm deep** and that your cavity walls are insulated.

Right now, firmus energy also has a number of offers available from 0% finance allowing customers to spread the cost of installing natural gas or free advanced controls allowing you to better manage your energy usage or a free shower when you switch to natural gas or £200 cash back.***
