For the past few months we have extended our support to promoting the extraordinary work of Gerard Hughes and his award winning social enterprise, Cycle Recycle. Located in Newry, Gerard and his small team of 4 people, 3 of which are volunteers including Gerard himself, dedicate their time to refurbishing unwanted or broken bikes for re-sale in the community at an affordable price.
Gerard’s vision is to promote fitness and well-being in Newry and beyond, and in the last four years Cycle Recycle have received a total of 3,000 bikes and successfully refurbished and sold an astonishing 1500 bikes back into the community.
In order to support Gerard’s vision we are holding a Bike Amnesty and collecting unwanted or broken bikes from all staff members and external stakeholders, and donating them to Cycle Recycle in preparation for the run up to Christmas.
