Speaking about the privilege of sponsoring the inaugural firmus energy, Local Women Magazine Inspirational Women of the Year Awards, firmus energy’s Marketing Communications Ciara Magill said,
“The awards ceremony was a pivotal event because there was such a range of categories and achievements to celebrate. The eclectic mix of entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, parents and carers is what made the event so memorable. These awards align perfectly with firmus energy’s values of empathy, clarity, integrity and teamwork, and celebrate females who work selflessly for the good of others.
“The Young Woman of the Year Award sponsored by RBF was awarded to an amazing local scientist Dr Caoimhe Rooney who has a PhD in mathematics from Oxford and works at NASA’s Ames Research centre. She hopes to one day earn her place on its astronauts programme.
“As well as awards for women whose work is out of this world, there were awards for ordinary women who are doing amazing things. Lung cancer survivor Janette Smye won the U105 carer of the year award for the selfless commitment she shows in supporting her sick daughter and Selfie City Entrepreneur of the Year winner Leona Marrow runs a successful transport business in a very male dominated industry.
“Deirdre Doherty was the perfect winner of the firmus energy environmentalist of the year award for her work in Mill Strand Primary School, Portrush as she works tirelessly to promote recycling and sustainability to ingrain those values in the next generation of leaders – something which is a key part of the community work that we are involved in at firmus energy.
“I’d like to also pay credit to Lucy King who won the firmus energy teenager of the year award for her determination to overcome adversity at the height of the pandemic. She really is a credit to her family and it certainly was inspiring to hear the stories of all the winners at the final.”
“Over half of the staff at firmus energy are female. Women are in decision-making roles across the company, including at senior management and management level. The company invests heavily to develop skills, retain staff and increase learning and capacity.
We also support our staff through mental health and wellbeing training, diversity and inclusion training and support staff through role specific qualifications. In fact firmus energy recently invested £95K in a staff reinvigoration initiative called the Re-energising Project to solidify its position as an ‘Employer of Choice’.
“Inspirational women are critical to delivering on our organisational objectives and at firmus energy we recognise there is value in diversity and fostering a workplace culture that helps us to attract and keep the best staff. She said.
“With over 108,000 customers across Northern Ireland, firmus energy also knows there are plenty of exceptional women at the heart of local communities. Our job is to ensure they have the energy to keep going.
