firmus energy Northern Lights Night Race is the first Plastic Smart Race in Ireland

Head torches at the ready for the inaugural firmus energy Northern Lights Night Race taking place in Portstewart on Friday 8th March at 7:30pm.

The first event of its kind, the firmus energy Northern Lights Night Race is the first ‘Plastic Smart’ run on the island of Ireland. Local outdoor events company, 26 Extreme is currently very resourceful utilising multiuse marking and signage which is reused at each event, print material kept to a minimum and 99% of participant information being digitised. However, the company has committed that every item at the firmus energy Northern Lights Night Race will be either reused, recycled or biodegradable and single use plastic bottles will be unwelcomed.

Director of 26 Extreme, Ian Cumming is driving the ‘Plastic Smart’ initiative:

"Our mission in 26 Extreme going forward with all events in 2019 is to continue to reuse, recycle and compost as much as we can – we have made the decision to completely ban the use of single plastic bottles at our events.

In 2019 I designed and manufactured a new unique water delivery system that allows 26 Extreme to deliver over 10000 litres of water to any one event. The water is handed out in compostable cups and has completely removed the need for bottled water. Although it is more expensive and takes more staff to hand it out, I believe we all need to do our bit, no matter how small to reduce the pressure on landfill.”

26 Extreme has encouraged event suppliers to join in on their mission to offer recyclable and compostable supplies: Speaking on behalf of firmus energy, Angeline Murphy, Marketing Manager is delighted to be headlining the first event of its kind:

“Corporate social responsibility is the cornerstone of all our business activities and we are delighted to join Ian and the team at 26 Extreme on their mission to be ‘Plastic Smart’. All promotional material that we hand out on the evening will be reusable, and we will also be utilising our multiuse brand material on the evening of the race. It is a great initiative and one we will be implementing in future events.”

26 Extreme and firmus energy would like to encourage all participants to car pool to the event and join their mission to be Plastic Smart,  and ‘leave no trace’ by bringing rubbish home and recycling.

This event can be entered singularly, or as part of the Night Edition Series. Registration fee is £26.50 and includes a medal, race bib, timing chip, entertainment, refreshments and lots of fun for all the family. There will also be a free kids run on the evening starting at 6.30pm.
