firmus energy launch annual ‘Night Edition’ Race with 26 Extreme

Following the huge success of the 2019 race, events management company 26 Extreme, is delighted to announce that the 2020 firmus energy Northern Lights night race 5k, 10k and challenge walk ‘Night Edition’ will be take placing on Friday 6th March 2020.

The evening’s festivities open with a free children’s race before the start of the 10k at 7pm as dusk falls.  The evening start makes for a spectacular sight, as a stream of light from competitor’s torches illuminates the seafront.  The route will take competitors along the promenade and onto the footpath in the direction of Portrush for 5k before turning onto the coastal trail for an exciting race back to the finish in Portstewart for cake, beer, tea or coffee as well as some excellent finish line craic and music.

The 5k race and challenge walks will start at 7.15pm, following the same route with a 2.5k turning point for the 5k events.

26 Extreme is very conscious of the impact an event of this size has on the environment and has always operated a “leave no trace” policy.  In 2018 the events company received the “Plastic Smart” award from the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council for their “Mission Compostable”, which removed single use plastic bottles and cups from their events, replacing them with cups made from compostable materials.

Established in 2006, firmus energy supplies gas to over 95,000 homes and businesses throughout Northern Ireland. The company has invested more than £6 million in the Coleraine area. Last year’s network development brought the benefits of natural gas to 1,440 properties.

Pamela Beatty, marketing manager, firmus energy said:

“Following on from the success of the race earlier in the year we are pleased to be continuing this partnership and hope to increase participation and spectators for the race in March 2020. Our partnership with 26 Extreme aligns with our own business and corporate social responsibility, particularly around its commitment to be ‘Plastic Smart. “We are looking forward to a busy 2020 event with even more participants entering the races. The event in March saw an impressive turn out and we expect that to increase this time”.

26 Extreme and sponsors, firmus Energy look forward to welcoming you to Portstewart on the 6th March for an excellent nights racing and entertainment.  The Mourne Mountain Brewery will once again be providing refreshments for all competitors and your athletic efforts will be timed by Jaguar Timing NI.
