firmus energy donates £16K to Down’s Syndrome Association NI

Local natural gas company firmus energy has signed off 2022 with a donation of £16,154.74 to their charity partner Down’s Syndrome Association NI. The local energy supplier organised a series of corporate and staff events and other initiatives to raise vital funds for the organisation.

Down’s Syndrome Association NI supports people who have Down’s syndrome,  their parents, and carers, throughout their lives. From before birth into older age, DSA NI provides a range of services which include training, advocacy as well as employment and health and wellbeing programmes all aimed at helping those with the condition live full and rewarding lives. Part of the UK wide charity, Down Syndrome Association UK is the only charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland focusing on all aspects of living successfully with Down’s syndrome.

Jonny Strain, firmus energy’s charity ambassador for 2022 said,

“We are pleased to sign off another successful fundraising year for such an important cause. The support DSA NI provides to individuals and families across the region makes a huge difference to the quality of their lives.

“The skills and experiences that young people with Down’s Syndrome learn through a range of initiatives led by DSA NI is invaluable and we are pleased to be supporting these initiatives, particularly given they, like so many charities in NI are so heavily reliant on fundraising to continue.

“The range of activities we undertook this year allowed our staff to get involved in supporting the charity whilst also boosting the morale of our team, particularly during a particularly challenging year.”

Some initiatives undertaken by the firmus energy team included staff BBQ’s, raffles, luxury prize draws, odd socks day, Movember and the very popular World Cup Accumulator.  As part of the company’s partnership with Local Women’s Business Awards, £3,900 was collected on the night.

The fundraising will go towards a range of initiatives, including social activities and away days, physical recreation, wellbeing programmes and ‘New Parent Days’ aimed at supporting new parents understand the condition of their new-born and have expert advice on speech and language, physio, and behavioural patterns.

Donna Lynch from DSA NI added,

“Without the support from our corporate partners we would not be able to continue the delivery of some really important initiatives that are making a significant impact on families lives. We depend on the support from partners and their staff as well as the general public who are using their free time to support us.

“Through the support from firmus energy we are able to continue to provide vital services to local communities across NI including training, study days, information and advice.”

If you would like to donate, organise an event or could spare some time volunteering, please contact DSA NI at 02890 665 260.
