2015 firmus energy Newry City Triathlon and Border Man Half Iron Distance Event Launched

Launch of the firmus energy Newry City Triathlon

test

Mayor Daire Hughes was pleased to announce details of the Annual firmus energy Newry City Triathlon which will take place on Sunday 30th August, 2015. This year's event will be a twin series with the firmus energy Newry City Sprint Triathlon and the newly introduced Border Man Half Iron Distance Event.

The Sprint Triathlon is now regarded as the fastest sprint triathlon in Ireland and the introduction of the Border Man Half Iron Distance Event will create a great challenge for the participants with the cycle part of the event taking them through South Armagh and into County Louth and back to Newry City.

The Newry Canal will again be the venue for the swim and the road race for the middle distance event will take the runners to Warrenpoint and it promises to be a very challenging event for competitors in the two events. The Annual Water Festival on the Canal will also take place as part of the day’s events and the Annual Tri-kid event should attract many entrants this year. The Council is delighted to welcome firmus energy back on board this year as the main sponsors and other associate sponsors include O’Briens Sandwich Bar from the Quays Shopping Complex.

Angeline Murphy from firmus energy commented: “Last year’s event really was a great success and we are delighted to confirm our continued support for the 2015 triathlon which no doubt will attract even more participants and visitors to the City.

“The firmus energy Newry City triathlon is a great opportunity for triathletes to achieve personal bests due to the fast, flat route of the race as well as being a fun course for novices.  It is not every day that people get the chance to swim in the Canal and Newry and Mourne council have to be commended for the work and investment they have put in its redevelopment over the recent years.

“We look forward to working closely with the Council and building on the success of last year – we would urge people to register as soon as possible to ensure they secure a space on one of the most sought after triathlons in NI!”

Details of how to enter these events and entry fee will be uploaded on the firmus energy Newry City Triathlon facebook page soon and also the dedicated website www.firmusenergynewrycitytriathlon.com
Information will also be available on the Newry and Mourne District Council Website.
