The main triathlon event takes place on Sunday 11th June which involves a 750m open water swim in the River Foyle, a 20km closed road cycle through the city and a 5km flat run that takes in key attractions around the City including the iconic Peace Bridge.

Michael Scott, managing director of firmus energy said:
“We hope that children from the area take this opportunity to join in and TRY some sports. firmus energy has been involved with the Triathlon and Kids TRYathlon since they began and it is great to think that the TRYathlon could be paving the way for future triathletes who will remember their first taste of the sport. Good luck to all of the young people who will be participating and most importantly – enjoy the experience”.
Commenting on the Kids TRYathlon event, Austin Cutliff from North-West Triathlon said:
“Over the last four years we have had hundreds of children take part in the Kids’ TRYathlon and we hope that this year even more will take advantage of the sports on offer. Whether they give just one a go or all three, the event is a great introduction to Triathlons – in fact, we have seen a number of young people make the transition from the ‘TRY’ to the adult triathlon which is a great endorsement of the sport! Reaching the TRYathlon’s fifth anniversary is a testament to the high level of engagement with the event from families in the area and it is fantastic that they have taken the TRYathlon to their hearts.
“Keeping fit and exercising are important messages for our young people and we are very proud to continue to reach so many children through the TRYathlon. It would be great to welcome even more participants to our event in 2017, which is a landmark year for us.”
All TRYathlon events are open to children aged 8-15 years, split into three categories and with various distances for each group. Kids can choose three separate events from namely TRYathlon (Swim-Bike-Run) Duathlon (Run-Bike-Run) Aquathon (Swim-Run). If you plan to take part in any of the bike events you must supply your own bike and helmet.
The cost to take part is £8 for non-Triathlon Ireland members and £5 for Triathlon Ireland members. Registration will take place on Saturday 17th June from 1-2:30pm and Sunday 18th from 09:00 -09:30 at the Templemore Sports Complex.
