gas safety
Natural gas is a highly regulated industry, both in terms of price and safety. Properly installed and used, gas appliances will serve you well for many years. When buying a gas appliance, deal with a reputable outlet and check that the appliance carries the CE mark. And remember, gas appliances must only be installed by a Gas Safe registered installer.
Every new appliance is supplied with a full instruction book - read it carefully and get to know your appliances. Keep the instructions handy, so that you can refer to them again. If you are moving house, please leave the instruction books for any appliance you are not taking with you. If you don't have the instructions books you need, contact the appliance suppliers for replacements.
Natural gas appliances should be serviced regularly, to make sure they are working safely and efficiently. To arrange a service, contact your natural gas authorised Gas Safe installer or service company.
If you need advice about servicing or are concerned that an appliance is not operating safely, please call us on our customer care line on 08456 08 00 88.
For your own safety, make sure you know how to turn off the gas supply at the meter. If your meter is in a box outside, keep the meter key handy.
If you don't have a meter key, you can request one from firmus energy on 08456 08 00 88.

- do not turn gas on until the escape has been repaired by a competent person
- do not switch on or off any electrical switches
- do not smoke
- do not use a mobile phone in the immediate area of the suspected gas leak.
