firmus energy has announced a unique discount against the cost of installation for select households looking to make the switch to natural gas and ensure their homes are ‘toasty’ this winter.

Through its ‘toasty homes’ scheme, firmus energy, which supplies natural gas to homes in 10 towns across Northern Ireland, is offering a ‘whole house’ solution encompassing a generous discount of £1500 against the installation costs of a new natural gas heating system in addition to up to £800 for insulation measures.

Given that up to 60% of the heat lost from a non-insulated house is through the walls and roof*, the scheme will allow households to ensure their homes are as energy-efficient as possible.

The scheme, which is part funded through the Energy Efficiency Levy Programme, will be offered to 100 households** on a first come, first serve basis. Unlike other schemes which are targeted solely at Economy 7, solid fuel households or households with no heating system at all, ‘toasty homes’ is also applicable to households which currently use oil, making it unique.

Commenting on the initiative, Gary Swann, Housing Sales Manager, firmus energy said, “’Toasty Homes’ is a fantastic scheme as the criteria allows us to reach out to those households who may narrowly miss out on other benefit schemes. In addition to the significant discount on installation available through the scheme, consumers who make the switch will also be able to avail of all the benefits associated with natural gas. For instance with natural gas combi-boilers there’s no need to have an immersion heater, households will have instant hot water using only the energy they need and thereby avoiding wastage.

“What’s more, firmus energy’s guarantee to customers that over the medium term, natural gas from firmus will be cheaper than oil - means they don’t have to worry about spiralling energy costs and the threat of a volatile oil market – an understandable concern for many households looking ahead to the winter months. We also offer a ‘pay-as-you-go’ facility with the firmus energy smart card – which makes it easier to budget and means one less bill for householders to worry about. There has never been a better incentive for customers to make the switch to natural gas from firmus energy.”

Noel Willliams, Head of the Energy Saving Trust Northern Ireland commented on the scheme, “We are pleased to support firmus energy in offering the ‘toasty homes’ scheme, part funded through the Energy Efficiency Levy Programme, targeting customers across the 10 towns to which they are bringing natural gas. The cost saving benefit to customers is two-fold; initially the substantial discount off the installation but equally important, the significant savings on fuel bills, by installing a highly efficient heating system and by insulating the home. This scheme will save the customer money whilst making their home a much more comfortable place.”

The ‘toasty homes’ initiative is relevant to owner occupiers or private tenants who fall into the following categories:

  • over 65 years of age
  • a single person household
  • or a couple/single parent family with incomes below £20k and £35K respectively

hose who meet the criteria and who are interested in making the switch from their current heating system to natural gas should call firmus energy at 08456 080088 and ask for Paula Simpson or Shelley Burns.
