firmus energy supports local bands charity 'SHOWSTOPPERS'

Launching Britannia Bands Showstopper concerts are Derry locals Pamela Anthony on the Alto Sax and Stanley Alexander on the Trombone with local girl Jennifer Lynott, Marketing Officer for firmus energy, the natural gas company which is supporting the series of concerts.

firmus energy, the company bringing natural gas to the City, is once again supporting Britannia Band’s ‘Showstoppers’ concerts, which are being run in conjunction with the Londonderry Musical Society.

The Derry ‘Showstoppers’ concert is being held in the Millennium Forum on Thursday 20th November at 8.00pm.  The concert, expected to attract a 1000-strong audience, is taking place in aid of the NSPCC and Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.

Colin Laird, vice-chairman for Britannia Band explains:  “This is the 20th year that Britannia has been performing the ‘Showstoppers’ concerts.  It is a great evening with audience members taking a trip along Broadway and the West End and hearing favourite tunes from all the big musicals.

“More than 40 band members will perform the songs, accompanied by a 50 – 60 strong chorusline.  This year’s programme includes tunes from ‘The Producers’, ‘Annie’, ‘My Fair Lady’ and ‘Les Miserables’, plus many others. It’s a real foot-tapper of a night and audience members are encouraged to sing along to all the hits.”

Neil Holland, sales and marketing manager of firmus energy said:  “This is our fourth year supporting the ‘Showstoppers’ concerts and we are delighted to be involved with these enjoyable events, which also support local charities.  The performances are great fun and everyone leaves with a smile on their face.

“We have been working in the City since 2006 and have brought the cost, environmental and practical benefits of natural gas to many domestic and commercial customers in the area.”

Colin Laird added:  “Our 20th year is a milestone for us and I am pleased to say that more than half of the original band members still perform with us.  We are a close group and our band-master and chorus-master, Ken and Jim Goodman have also been with us for many years.”

The other concerts will take place on 14 November in Coleraine Institute, 15 November in St. Patrick’s Hall, Strabane and 21 November in  Limavady High School.
