Mission most possbile at the Round Tower PS
More than 1000 children in 24 schools across Northern Ireland have taken part
in the firmus energy supported ‘Mission Most Possible’ workshops. Aimed at key
stage two children, particularly P5-P7, the interactive sessions with Dr Verde
use carefully constructed ‘secret missions’ to encourage pupils to find out
more about our planet and some of the small, simple things that can be done to
save energy, but can really make a big difference.
The children at Round Tower Primary School will undertake five
‘missions’ and learn about insulation, water wastage, energy saving items,
energy wasted by putting items on standby, and generally saving energy across
the house.
Neil Holland, sales and marketing manager for firmus energy, who supply
natural gas to ten towns and cities across Northern Ireland explains, “Through
our support, we are delighted that Replay Productions are now able to bring
these exciting and dynamic workshops to local primary school children.
“The programme, which lasts approximately 90 minutes includes five
interactive tasks based on the environment which explore issues relevant to
the children in a way that is creative, current and challenging.
“Using the theme of environment is especially relevant to firmus energy
as we are committed to making Northern Ireland a cleaner place to live and
natural gas has up to 30% less carbon dioxide emissions than other fossil
fuels such as oil and coal. We are also dedicated to promoting and teaching
children about how they can be more environmentally friendly and believe this
initiative will play its part in creating a more environmentally aware
generation.”
Richard Croxford, Artistic Director for Replay Productions comments,
“Replay were delighted when firmus energy approached us about designing a
bespoke workshop on the environment. Replay Productions aims to provide high
quality, professional theatre that entertains, educates and stimulates
children and young people. This particular project is a new concept based on
‘Life, The Universe and You’ and uses theatre to engage children in a way that
is challenging yet enjoyable.
“The children are led by workshop facilitator, Dr Verde, an undercover
agent who enlists their help in undertaking Mission Most Possible. Through
these interactive tasks children learn about how to conserve energy in the
home, for example by insulating pipes and hot water tanks. By the end of the
workshop they’ve had great fun and know a little bit more about how they can
help respect the environment.”
