Stephen Guo (r), a chef at the Tao Noodle Bar Cafe, on Belfast's Dublin Road was the winner of the first ever Chinese Masterchef Competition, sponsored by firmus energy. Held on Sunday as part of the Chinese New Year celebrations in St George's Market, the competition was organised by Belfast City Council's Environmental Health Unit as part of its Healthier Chinese Menu project which encourages takeaways and restaurants across Belfast to return to traditional cooking methods and offer healthier alternatives to their customers.
Supported by the Chinese Welfare Association and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the Masterchef competition aimed to find Belfast's top Chinese Chef with competitors scored on their approach to food nutrition, hygiene and taste.
Commenting on his success after being announced winner and receiving a luxury two night break for two at Galgorm Manor, courtesy of firmus energy, winning chef Stephen Guo said: "I'm really delighted to win this award. It is the perfect way to welcome the Year of the Tiger which many consider to be the luckiest sign in the Chinese zodiac."
