natural gas checks in at the dunadry hotel
Antrim-based firmus energy, the company supplying natural gas to twelve key
towns and cities across Northern Ireland, has connected local hotel, The
Dunadry, to natural gas, the newly available energy source to the area.
Mark Prentice, general manager for firmus energy commented, “We have
been working very hard in our home town of Antrim and the surrounding area
over the last few months to allow us to connect even more customers to natural
gas and enable them to enjoy the financial, environmental and practical
benefits it brings.
“We are delighted that the Dunadry has been able to convert to natural
gas as it can bring significant advantages to businesses, especially of this
size which use a large amount of energy.
“Historically, natural gas has been the lower cost fuel of choice for
more than 20 million customers in both Great Britain and Ireland. We offer
real savings against other fuels and are confident natural gas will continue
to be a competitive fuel option for homes and businesses into the future.
“Natural gas is also the most environmentally friendly of the fossil
fuels. There are up to 30% fewer carbon emissions versus oil for the same
energy output, which will bring cleaner air to Antrim and the other towns in
the area that firmus energy is servicing.”
John Mooney, manager of The Dunadry said: “With climate change being a
prominent issue on the news and with the government setting targets to reduce
CO2 levels, I believe it is an important responsibility for businesses to do
something to help the environment.
“Choosing natural gas as your energy source is a significant and easy
way to reduce your carbon footprint and also to ensure the hotel is running as
efficiently as possible.
“I am also looking forward to the practical benefits, such as more
controllable cooking in the restaurant’s kitchen and more responsive heating
in guests’ rooms, 365 days a year. Also as the natural gas is piped directly
to the premises and is always ‘on tap’, my job has been made easier, as I
don’t have to worry about running out, having to re-order fuel or finding
somewhere to store it.
“We are quite a big hotel, with 83 rooms, a large restaurant and a
number of facilities in the country club which use a lot of hot water.
Therefore using natural gas to in the hotel for cooking, heating and hot water
will reduce my energy costs and allow us to spend this extra money on other
ways to improve the hotel for our guests.
“We are in the process of re-branding the hotel, emphasising our
uniqueness and making the most of local history. However, converting to this
newly available energy source will ensure that the hotel also stays modern and
up-to-date and that our guests get the best service and facilities possible.”
firmus energy has been working in Antrim for the last few months laying
pipes and developing a natural gas network in the area. The company previously
connected Express by Holiday Inn in the town and are working to connect more
commercial and residential customers, including Belfast International Airport,
Holywell Hospital and over 100 Northern Ireland Housing Executive Homes (NIHE)
in Ballycraigy.
