costing
How much will it cost to convert my property to natural gas? Will you pay all of the costs of conversion?
The connection for natural gas from our main will normally be free of charge up to and including the meter position as long as your property is no more than 30 meters from the gas main.
The cost of changing your system from another fuel to gas would depend on which fuel you use now and the amount of work involved. It would probably mean a new boiler and we would advise a high efficiency condensing boiler designed to save on fuel and money. It could also include upgrading your existing control systems such as room thermostats and radiator thermostats, all of which are added to improve your systems efficiency and save you money.
There are no grants available for customers connecting for gas for the use of gas fires, gas cookers or gas barbeques only.

If I sign up for natural gas, will your installers fit my new boiler?
firmus energy do not have installers working directly for them. Should you wish to convert to natural gas, we can advise you on firmus energy 'authorised' installers who can quote you for conversion. These 'authorised' installers have signed up to firmus energy's installers code of practice. You can of course use any other installer as long as they are Gas Safe registered.
How can I pay for my gas?
If you are a tenant (either Housing Executive or Private rented house):
You can pay for your gas as you use it with the firmus energy smart card. You can top it up at any PayPoint outlet and then transfer the credit to your meter. The minimum you can pay on your card is £5 and the maximum is £49.
if you are a home-owner:
As well as the option of the firmus energy smartcard, you can pay for your gas with our budget direct debit system, using a fixed monthly payment or you can pay by variable direct debit on a quarterly basis. All of our customers receive a quarterly bill advising them on the status of their account.
You can also pay by cheque or cash at the Post Office or by cash only at any PayPoint outlet. You can pay by debit or credit card over the phone but there will be a 2% charge on all credit card payments over £250. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and Visa Electron.
Please be advised that direct debit customers receive a discount of £5 per quarter.
How often will you read my meter?
We will read your meter, assuming that we can gain access to it, four times a year. You will therefore receive 4 quarterly bills based on these meter reads. If we cannot access your meter to read it, you will receive a bill with an estimated reading. If we miss you when we come to read your meter, or if you feel that the estimates are out of line, you can ring our self-read phone line with your reading and we will adjust your account accordingly. The number is on the back of your bill.
