in the community
Teachers and parents, did you know that firmus energy offer safety talks to schools that we are working near ? This talk is aimed at primary four through to primary seven children and is designed to discourage the children from playing on, or with our pipes and general health and safety around any building site.

The visit will usually last an hour and the children will receive some special goodies afterwards. If you would like more information on our schools talks, please contact Jennifer Lynott on 028 9442 7800.

If you do not feel that a visit would benefit your school, we also have worksheets for both key stage 1 and 2 pupils. These informative worksheets are highly colourful and interesting, they highlight the dangers of playing on our pipes and educate the children about natural gas.
The children will learn about gas by completing the crosswords, word paths and there is also a colouring section for the younger pupils.
firmus energy are delighted to be involved in numerous community projects across our 10 towns. We are members of Business in the Community (BITC) which is a unique movement of companies committed to improving their positive impact on society.

firmus energy showed commitment to World Environment day in 2008 by taking 25 staff along to the Ecos Centre in Ballymena. There was a lot of work involved in the project including; helping to clear the backlog of plastic that had gathered for recycling, we bagged more than 20 5ft high bags for the centre. Another team were sent to work on the pond to clear debris that had gathered.
2007 Through BITC we completed a planting project for "The Playtrail" in Derry, located in the Greater Shantallow area, on the Racecourse Road.
During the day, 30 firmus staff took part in various activities including the development of an immature woodland, natural planting, and the trimming and clearance of overhanging branches and brambles.
This was an excellent day for all involved, the Playtrail co-ordinators were delighted with the work and firmus staff benefited from a unique team building experience.
Family favourite, May McFettridge (Widow Twankey) was out and about recently to kick off the countdown to panto season! firmus energy are sponsors of this year’s pantomime performance, Aladdin, at the Grand Opera House in Belfast, which runs from 28th November until 16th January and will be fantastic fun for all the family.

firmus energy is actively involved in helping the communities where we work. In association with Business in the Community we have participated in many community projects; helping young people to develop their reading skills, teaching older people computer skills and helping them to navigate the internet right down to cleaning up parks and ponds.
If you have a community project which you think we may be interested in sponsoring, we’d love to hear about it.
And to help you we have put together a few pointers that we look for:
- Background to the event or the group seeking sponsorship
- Overview of how you to plan to promote the event
- Include a list of other sponsors and partners
- Why firmus energy should be associated with this event
- Target market and expected numbers at the event or how many people will benefit from it
- Timeline including deadlines for printing leaflets/press releases etc
Please note that we will not sponsor:
- Individuals or families
- Events or groups which take place outside the 10 towns that we supply gas to
- Requests for travel or operating costs
- Logos on team shirts for any sport
All requests will be responded to either in writing, by email or by telephone.
